Ensure
the correct type/capacity of battery is put in your vehicle.
Battery
should be secured firmly in the cradle.
Terminals
should be kept clean.
Clamps
should be frimly tightened.
Connecting
cables should be fixed to the correct poles.
(first +ve
to +ve then -ve to -ve)
Petroleum
jelly (Vaseline) should be applied on the terminal/cable clamps.
Top of the
battery should be kept clean and dry.
The electrolyte
level should be upto the bottom of the filling hole for HR and
opaque PP container. For translucent PP container the level should
be maintained at "max" line as indicated.
Topping
up should be done with distilled water only.
Keep
the vent plugs clean and tight vent holes should be clean.
Get
the output of voltage regulator checked as both over-charging
and under charging are harmful for thr batteries.
Tension
on fan-belt should be adeqaute.
In
case of Maintenance free batteries vent plugins can be opened
with a rupee coin.
In case of
battrery lying idle ensure freshening charges is given once a
month for normal batteries and once in three months for MF batteries.
Re-charging
should be done at recommended current (amps) only.
Ensure that
batteries are checked once in two months for normal batteries
and once in six months for MF batteries.
Dont's
Do not install
a lower capacity battery than recomended.
Do not top-up
with acid/mineral water/tapwater.
Do not hammer
down clamps onto terminals.
Do not use
grease on terminals/cable clamps.
Do not over
fill the battery.
Do not keep
your battery idle for more than three to four weeks for normal
batteries and 10-12 weeks for MF batteries.
Current setting
for charging should not be increased to quick charge the battery
as this will seriously affect battery life.
The charging
current should not be more than one twenteith of rated AH capacity.
Do not open
Maintenance free Battery vent plugs with screwdriver/ any sharp
tool.
Do not operate
or charge the battery if electrolyte temperature exceeds 6oC.
In two wheelers
do not allow the vent hose in your battery to folded, pinched
or melted by the exhaust system.
